Week of February 21st - 25th!
Hope you had a wonderful long weekend and you are rested and healthy. I was out on Thursday as I too was not feeling well.
Thursday is our 100th Day of School Celebration! Don't forget to send in the bags filled with 100 things! We will be doing many activities this week in all subject areas to celebrate this fun day!
Spelling- I sent home a list of 100 review words and we will be doing all sorts of activities with these words.
Usually on Monday the class writes the words 3x each. Don't worry..I wouldn't dream of having them write 300 words!! They will choose 10 words from the list and use them in a full and complete sentence. They will do this in their Spelling notebook.
We will have a class Spelling Bee on Friday with the words.
Please let me know if you would like to come speak with the class on Friday about your job as we will continue our study on communities and our part in them.
The students will be writing about what it would be like to be 100 years old and what they might look like! Can't wait to see these!
The class wrote about what they would do if they were the president. Very cute! They will be coming home this week.
We will be finishing up our unit on 1 digit addition and will be moving to subtraction next week. Most of the class has a firm grip on the addition facts but there are a few who still need practice. We will continue reviewing.
Please continue to read each night with your child!

Week of January 24th!
I don't even know what to say about all this crazy, snowy weather! I hope your weekend was a nice one!
Spelling- (long e) sheep tree she three we beach dream treat seat leaf
Test on Friday!
Math- Our addition test from last week is rescheduled for Tuesday. The students have learned many ways to help them add. We use number lines, 10 frames, counters, pattern charts. These manipulatives are always available for the students to use especially during a test. Word problems are ongoing and will be on the test as well.
Religion- Our Religion test on the Church Year will be on Monday. I will re-review (is that even a word??)
before the test.
We will be making our first Prayer Blanket this week. We have been discussing during these winter weeks how the less fortunate have things so much harder than we do and how blessed we are in so many ways. It amazes may how many students really "get" this. We will make a blanket to donate to the homeless shelter at the Newburgh Ministry .
Science- We will be doing our snow melting experiment as well as making snowflakes and snow globes. The children have had an opportunity to hear some great Read-Alouds (fiction & non-fiction) about the weather.
Reading- I decided over Christmas break, after much thought, to make another reading group. We now have 3 groups instead of 2. This will allow me to move more quickly with some and give that extra time to others.
I am working on having the First grade class read to the Kindergarten class during Catholic Schools Week.
ENJOY THE WEEK!!
